Offered is a divine book, "Henri Matisse: The Early Years in Nice, 1916-1930" by Jack Cowart and Dominique Fourcade. This book was commissioned by the trustees as a companion catalogue to the eponymous named exhibit held at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, November 1986 - March 1987 (I was there!!). Full to the brim with beautiful photographs and illustrations of his works in progress, photographs of some of his portrait spaces, and excellent text from 2 expert Matisse art historians. This is the 2nd edition, softcover. The cover is extended to fold over to double the weight and strength and mimic the hardcover dust jacket. The hardcover edition is published by Harry Abrams, this edition is published by The National Gallery of Art and printed in Italy. 367 pages - we've sampled many of the images above.
