This book was commissioned by the trustees as a companion catalogue to the eponymous named exhibit held at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, November 1986 - March 1987 (I was there!!). Full to the brim with beautiful photographs and illustrations of his works in progress, photographs of some of his portrait spaces, and excellent text from 2 expert Matisse art historians. This is the 2nd edition, softcover. The cover is extended to fold over to double the weight and strength and mimic the hardcover dust jacket.
