This faience enameled planter … Read more We are selling this massive and stunning piece of French art pottery in the aesthetic style. This faience enameled planter features Japanese or Chinoiserie style decoration of vibrantly colored enamel flowers and birds on a light blue background creating a very striking ornamental planter. The base of this very large planter is marked EC Toujours for Eugène Victor Collinot a famous French potter and designer. Collinot was awarded a silver medal at the 1867 Exhibition in Paris. His interests included both Middle and Far Eastern design and architecture, and with Adalbert de Beaumont he published, as one of a series, Ornements du Japon (1883), a handbook for students containing Japanese motifs similar to those on this panel. Collinot was singled out in the British and French reports on the 1867 Exhibition, the French reporter commenting that 'for the reproduction of Oriental faience M. Collinot is second to none'.

Condition: There are some chips around the base of the foot rim, otherwise in good condition for the age of the piece.
