Item description:
Hand-modeled and decorated vitrified ceramic sculpture depicting a seated couple, dating back to around 1930. Although unsigned, the sculpture can easily be attributed to Leopold Anzengruber and the Lucchesi e Carraresi factory. Both produced figurines of this type, and in fact many experts believe it is very likely that Anzengruber collaborated for several years with the Florentine manufacturer Lucchesi e Carraresi. This sculpture is truly beautiful. Of particular note are the beauty of the man's hair, made entirely of small hand-modeled balls, and the beauty of the floral decorations on the woman's dress, executed brushstroke by brushstroke. Finally, we would like to emphasize the fact that this is an object made entirely by hand, without a mold, which ceramics experts generally refer to as "plastics."
Useful information for evaluating the item:
In the last photos, we have added some sculptures similar to ours, listed at very high prices, ranging from a minimum of €250-350 to €1,400-1,600 for a lot of four sculptures. Please note that these are all fairly old auctions, ranging from 2005 to 2013, and we are talking about estimates, which, when adjusted for inflation, would certainly be higher today. Furthermore, we are talking about auction bases, prices that could always rise during the auction, and finally, auction fees of 25-30% will always be added to the final result.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
Leopold (Leo) is a ceramist of Austrian origin, born in 1912. He worked in the 1920s at the "Manifattura di Signa" and in the 1930s collaborated with the artistic ceramics manufacturer "Zaccagnini" in Florence and with the Florentine company "Carraresi & Lucchesi." During his long artistic career, he also collaborated with "S.A.C.A." in Sesto Fiorentino, and in Vietri, with "I.C.S." and the "Avallone" factory.
The "Carraresi & Lucchesi" ceramics factory was founded in 1938 in Sesto Fiorentino by Virgilio Carraresi and ceramist Daniele Lucchesi. The factory produced artistic ceramics, tableware, and decorative objects, including some vases of particular interest from the 1900s, with geometric shapes decorated with brightly colored airbrushes and inspired by Pontian influences. The factory ceased production in 1967. We have included biographical notes on Anzengruber and historians of the Carraresi e Lucchesi factory in the last photo, for those who wish to learn more.
