Carte de Visite (CDV) photograph from the late 1800s, featuring the distinctive design of J.F. Ryder's studio in Cleveland, Ohio. James F. Ryder was a prominent Cleveland photographer and art gallery owner who opened his studio at 239 Superior Street in 1872. Carte de Visite: CDVs were small, albumen print photographs mounted on thicker card stock, popular during the Victorian era for sharing and collecting. Studio Design: The design on the back of the CDV showcases the façade of Ryder's studio and art gallery, reflecting the architectural styles of the period. Significance: Ryder was known for photographing notable figures, including Civil War soldiers and presidents, and for documenting Cleveland's landscape through stereographs.
