It is decorated in … Read more An exceptional Art Deco vase, crafted by the Johann Loetz Witwe glassworks in Czechoslovakia (formerly Bohemia). It is decorated in décor 18/25, created using the Schaumglas (foam glass) technique, which involved special frosted and crystalline effects. The process consisted of craquelating clear glass, then either sprinkling it with powdered white glass or tempering it in a saline solution to achieve a delicate crystalline texture. Some of the crystals outside the craquelures were deliberately abraded, and the entire piece was then encased in an additional layer of clear glass. The vase was mold-blown and subsequently carefully expanded, giving it an elegant, rounded form.
