Item description:
Beautiful triptych in English porcelain from the 1800s, entirely hand-decorated and glazed. Composed of a pair of single cherubs with a handkerchief vase and a larger centerpiece with two cherubs holding a bowl, also with a handkerchief. Made by the English manufacturer Moore Brothers, each piece is marked under the base. Dating back to the late 1800s in full Art Nouveau style, as can be easily deduced from the curly, perforated bases with ochre yellow decoration, classic of Art Nouveau porcelain. The floral decorations on the vases are all handmade with a brush tip, truly masterpieces.
Useful information for evaluating the item:
In the last photo, we have included some historical notes on the manufacturer, taken from one of our French books specializing in European porcelain, which features many of the marks used, including ours. Furthermore, through our internet research, we found several sculptures similar to ours by Moore Brothers offered on various online art and antiques sales sites at very high prices. For example, we found a similar pair, but consisting only of the two smaller pieces without the larger central one, offered on the 1stdibis website for over €1,300. Then we found a piece similar to the central one, also by Moore Brothers, and therefore missing the two side pieces, offered on the Internet by another seller for $1,089. Two other pieces, also similar to our central piece and also from the same manufacturer, are offered on the Internet, one for €965 and the other for €875. This is just to give you an idea of the value of similar porcelain pieces.
Information about artist and/or manufacturer:
Moore Brothers Pottery Works was founded by Thomas and Henry Moore in Stoke-on-Trent, England, around 1863. Their production focused mainly on decorative porcelain and ceramic pieces, often with floral and animal decorations inspired by nature, such as cacti, lilies, and other plants. The most iconic pieces include vases, centerpieces, plates, and sculptures, often with relief elements and gilded details, featuring floral elements and figures in relief, such as cherubs or animals. Their works, dating mainly from the late 19th century, are now highly sought after by collectors, and their ceramics fetch high prices at auction.
