It depicts a classical lamp in the form of a mounted rider, which is a common theme in ancient Greco-Roman art, often associated with heroes or gods. Below the mounted figure is another lamp that appears to show a chained figure, suggesting a narrative or symbolic scene, possibly of captivity or punishment. The lamps are set on pedestals and detailed with Hellenistic flourishes, embodying both aesthetic beauty and functional design. The illustration reflects Montfaucon's dedication to documenting the artifacts of the ancient world, offering a lens through which to view the artistic and cultural values of antiquity. The engraving is meticulously detailed, highlighting the artist's skill in capturing the intricate designs of these historical objects. See less
