Item description:
Fabulous vase, cachepot, in strong earthenware in full Art Deco style, glazed with turquoise enamels and worked with incised squares, signed under the base by Richard Ginori, with the San Cristoforo mark in green, therefore made by Giovanni Gariboldi, one of the most important collaborators of Richard Ginori, which is without a doubt the most important Italian manufacturer of the 1900s. This vase is particularly beautiful, with incised square decorations in full Deco style and a thick, compact turquoise glaze with a slight orange peel effect.
Useful information for evaluating the item:
An online search shows that the eight highest auction results found for Giovanni Gariboldi in the "objects" category on Art Price range from €3,000 to €6,500, while in the "ceramics" category, the four highest results range from €2,400 to €5,000. Finally, in the "furniture" category, the four highest results range from over €6,600 to over €13,200, all prices to which auction fees of 25-30% must be added. This is to give a general idea of the importance of the works created by this artist. Finally, we found a vase very similar to ours, which was estimated, back in 2012, at €900-1,100.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
Gariboldi was a designer, sculptor, and modeler. He was born in 1908 and died in Milan in 1971. In 1926, he was personally hired by Giò Ponti at Richard-Ginori as an apprentice modeler. In 1937, some of Giovanni Gariboldi's ceramics and earthenware, made at the Milanese factory "Ginori San Cristoforo," were a great success at the Decorative Arts Exhibition in Paris, where they were awarded the gold medal. In 1946, he was appointed artistic director of all Richard-Ginori factories, a position he held until his death. In the last photo, we have included biographical notes on the artist for those who wish to learn more.
