A French Bronze Equestrian Group Of Napoleon On Horseback.
Napoleon is depicted wearing his bicorne hat, in his right hand holding the horses reigns the other hand holding a telescope with a small sword to his left side, on elaborate fringed saddle. Cast by Pinedo, Paris, from the model by Louis Marie Morise. The base inscribed Morise and stamped "PINEDO/PARIS".
Louis-Marie Morise (French, 1818-1883) exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1857 to 1883, specialising in equestrian works. Editions of his works were often cast by the Pinedo foundry bearing its foundry cachet and BRONZE GARANTI AU TITRE/PARIS marks. His figure of the Emperor Napoleon on horseback was first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1864 but was subsequently cast in editions by Pindeo and then by other foundries during his lifetime and also posthumously. Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), also known as Napoleon I, was a French military leader and emperor who conquered much of Europe in the early 19th century.
