Join the club, as I had never heard of it until I researched this lovely, brass coal iron (meaning you press fabric with it by filling it with hot coals to heat it up.) Emperor Shōwa reigned from 1926-1989 (a long time!), and this iron is from the earlier part of those years. It’s a delightful piece to put on a bookshelf, set by the fireplace, or add a cheeky element to your newly finished laundry room. It opens up to allow the user to fill it with coal, and the handle is gorgeous. There are a few age-style marks on the brass (I did not try to clean it, as I love patina), and the handle is in near perfect condition, besides one small nick near the brass. See less
