Beautifully hand carved frame of sturdy construction and painted in classic soft grey color. The french tapestry is in excellent condition and appears to be an ancient Roman scene likely inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses. These room screens were popular in the 1800s to shield the intense heat of a fireplace or stove in a room and they are also functionally used today for interior decor screening and room division.
