Two hand-carved Indian wooden printing blocks, also known as Indian fabric stamps or textile printing blocks. These blocks were traditionally used in India for block printing on textiles to apply patterns and designs to fabric.
The wooden blocks are hand-carved by skilled artisans in India, showcasing intricate details or patterns. Larger: 8"x 2"x 10.5" high Smaller: 3.5"x 1.5"x 5.5"high
These two specific textile blocks depict stylized human figures, possibly a historical or religious character, which is a common motif in Indian block printing. The larger figure has a prominent, ornate headpiece with a striped pattern, possibly resembling a crown or a ceremonial headdress, which is characteristic of various deities or revered individuals in Asian art.
This type of block is a significant part of India's rich textile heritage, with the craft flourishing particularly during the Mughal era. An antique Indian textile stamp depicting a sultan would be a unique and historically significant item.
Age is estimated to be Late 19th or early 20th Century

The stamps have been used. There is obvious ink residue on the carved designs. The carved top of the wood is the stamp, and the bottom part of the wood has been designed to be the handle, but it is all made from one piece of wood. Very small cracks are visible in the base that do not affect the actual design of the stamp. less
