The Admiralty Collection is part of Theodore Alexander's Althorp Living History line of fine furniture which included this console with crossed sabres on each side. The sabres are made of wood, and the handles are made of brass in the shape of bird's heads. The back is inset with a beveled mirror that reflects the sabres beautifully when viewed at an angle. The single drawer has the most delightful handles shaped like two sabres joined together. The metal medallion is affixed to the interior of the drawer and reads "Earl Spencer First Lord of the Admiralty" (refer to picture 17), the 2nd Earl Spencer and the ancestor of Princess Diana and her brother, Charles Spencer. This console is no longer in production and is quite scarce, which is why I was delighted to have found it!
As a vintage piece of furniture, this console has a few condition issues that I want to point out. There are a few scratches on the top (refer to picture 7). The trim on the right side under the top has a break in it (refer to picture 14). I only discovered this break when I picked up the console by the top, so it's barely noticeable. The brass sabre handles have some oxidation on them (refer to pictures 4 and 5). I have included pictures of all four sabre handles. Pictures 11 and 12 show the second pair of sabre handles on the right side of the console.
I photographed this console outside in natural light. The color of the mahogany wood will look different when viewed in an interior setting under artificial light.
