This exquisite sculptural lounge chair, designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli and produced by his own factory, Fábrica de Móveis Giesse, in 1950, is a stunning example of mid-century Brazilian design. The solid caviuna wood frame is a masterpiece in itself, surrounding the seat like an elegant embrace. with graceful curves and angles, the frame showcases both the artistry and craftsmanship of Scapinelli’s work, making this large lounge chair not only a comfortable seating option but also a visual delight from every perspective. Reupholstered in a rich camel brown velvet mohair, faithful to the original design, the chair features wing-like seat shapes accented with tufted buttons, adding both functionality and refined aesthetics. The piece has been structurally checked and is in excellent condition, offering a balance of beauty and durability. Giuseppe Scapinelli (1891-1982) was a visionary designer, furniture maker, and dealer based in São Paulo. Born in Italy, Scapinelli’s designs reflected a deep understanding of modernism, with generous, voluptuous forms and a clear nod to his Italian roots through his use of curved lines and elegant proportions. Though he remained somewhat obscure after his death in 1982, his work has experienced a revival in recent decades, earning recognition as an important contributor to Brazilian modernism. His pieces, primarily sold in Brazil, remain rare treasures in the international market, particularly in Europe, where they are seldom seen. Scapinelli's enduring legacy now stands alongside the great masters of design. As with all our upholstered pieces, these can be custom reupholstered to suit your preferences.
