Helen Slater studied with Otto and Vivika Heino at Chouinard before transferring to University of Southern California where she studied with Susan Peterson. Slater worked in her studio either using stoneware or porcelain but is better known for time spent, 1965 to 1983, as a designer for Matlox Pottery in Manhattan Beach where she designed numerous sets of dinnerware and serving pieces for the factory.
