This classic Rouen inspired compote was produced by the skilled artisans of the Porquier Beau factory in Quimper between 1875 - 1903. It features a center medallion of a quiver, torch, cornucopia, and two doves, which is a French symbol of marriage & chivalrous love, and a lambrequin floral, scroll, and croisille border to embellish the dish's ogee scallop edges.
The dish is unmarked but the it's shape, size, and Rouen decor is identical to other dishes with the Porquier Beau mark and featured in the 1998-99 Porquier Beau Exposition Catalogue. The glaze colors, exposed clay color, exquisite painting, and glaze crawling & pinhole imperfections are also consistent with 19th century Porquier Beau pieces.
In excellent antique condition with no cracks, hairlines or repairs. There are several superficial chips to the edges, two tiny chips on the bottom of the base foot ring, and glaze crawling and glaze pinholes from the production process of the time.
Dimensions are approximately 8 1/4" diameter x 1 5/8" high.
