This set of four antique high quality folk art wall plates or bowls is from the Hutsul tradition of the … Read more This set of four antique high quality folk art wall plates or bowls is from the Hutsul tradition of the Carpathian region (today: Romania/Ukraine/Serbia). It was handcrafted and hand-painted and is likely originate from the Bukovina region, Kutsy, Kosiv, or Marginea, well-known centers of Hutsul ceramic art and were probably made around 1900 or earlier.

Each object shows stylized cattle/deers as the central motif, separated by a plant-deco typical of rural symbolism for fertility and nature.

These impressive vintage pieces can be hung on the wall by using the loop on each backside or can be placed on a table as well. They are colored with a green and brown glaze on a light base, typical of Hutsul ceramics. The decor has beautiful floral and geometric frame elements.

Such beautiful objects were traditionally made for domestic use and as wall decorations, often also as dowries or festive items. See less
