Extremely Rare 1966 “Ritual Disc IV” Limited Edition Etching with Mixed Media by R. Dorsett — Edition of 9
A remarkable opportunity to acquire an exceptionally rare work of mid-century surrealist printmaking. “Ritual Disc IV” by R. Dorsett is a hauntingly beautiful etching with aquatint/drypoint and hand-applied gestural inkwork, dated 1966 and numbered 7/9 — one of only nine impressions ever created.
The circular composition is dense with symbolic and dreamlike imagery: a central, penetrating gaze surrounded by mythic creatures, winged figures, and swirling textures that evoke themes of ritual, transformation, and the subconscious. The hand-painted overlay adds a visceral, nearly calligraphic energy, making each impression subtly unique and giving the work the feel of a one-of-a-kind piece.
This print is professionally presented in its vintage gold-tone metal frame with deep black matting, lending gravitas and visual drama. The frame shows light, honest wear consistent with age, complementing the work’s mid-century authenticity.
