This hand-colored chromolithograph presents a spectacular depiction of a tropical orchid species admired for its dramatic form and vibrant hues. Native to the cloud forests of Colombia, 'Odontoglossum wattianum' is known for its long inflorescences and striking color patterns. The print shows a graceful spray of blooming flowers with boldly mottled petals and sepals in deep chestnut and golden-yellow tones, each bloom marked by a large, frilled lip in vivid magenta with intricate white veining. The lush green pseudobulbs and strap-like leaves add structure and grounding to the composition, while the neutral background sets the complex floral forms into relief. The composition successfully combines botanical accuracy with artistic elegance, demonstrating the high standards of the *Reichenbachia* series. This plate was drawn from life by renowned botanical artist Henry Moon (1857–1905), whose signature appears within the image. The chromolithography was executed by Gustav Leutzsch, one of the principal printers for this ambitious work, which sought to portray every known orchid genus at life size with the highest artistic fidelity. Under the direction of nurseryman and publisher Henry Frederick Conrad Sander, *Reichenbachia* became a landmark in both horticultural history and botanical illustration. This print represents the golden age of orchid mania and remains a rare and highly desirable example of Victorian botanical art. Its vibrant color, dramatic subject, and historical pedigree make it a valuable acquisition for collectors, orchid lovers, and interior decorators seeking a centerpiece from the orchid boom of the 19th century. Condition report: Good condition with light age toning and scattered foxing in the margins. Image area clean and vibrant. No tears or repairs. Blank verso. Framing tips: Pair with a warm-toned wood or dark bronze frame to echo the orchid's rich hues. A cream or moss-green mat will complement the foliage and bring out the detail in the flower petals.
