Four hundred year old corbels! Salvaged from a cottage at 20 Rue Saint Balseme in Le Chene, France. The rural home was built in the 1600s but had to be demolished a few years ago to accommodate the expansion of the town. These corbels were located under the eave and served as decor as well as support for the roof.
Carved from native French poplar, these amazing relics are naturally aged and have a great rustic patina. Corbels are one of the most sought after architectural fragments. They can be used as the base for a mantel, wall shelf, or cabinet. Their unique shape with two flat sides also makes them ideal bookends.
Each corbel measures about 11 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches deep. They have not been restored in any way. We have left them just as they were when removed from the home. . Expect some rough edges, cracks, holes, and paint remnants -- 400 years of character development.
