This striking pair of Thai earthenware jars was crafted circa 1880 in Ratchaburi, a region celebrated for its traditional ceramics. Each jar measures approximately 22 inches in diameter and 25 inches high, featuring a robust ovoid form with a wide rolled rim and warm, amber-toned glaze. Decorative motifs include dynamic hand-incised dragons, radiating sunbursts, and stylized emblems, all enhanced by natural glaze variations and surface patina.
A raised seal in Thai script, along with a globe-like insignia, identifies their provincial origin and authenticates their 19th-century craftsmanship. Originally intended for water storage or fermentation, these monumental vessels now serve beautifully as planters or sculptural decorative accents. Their scale, aged finish, and cultural symbolism make them a commanding addition to garden settings, entry halls, or interiors blending Asian and European elements.
Good condition commensurate with age and outdoor use, with minor glaze losses and wear adding to their antique character.
