The text beneath the image indicates that the engraving is based on the remains of an ancient statue of King Edward I, which was over the gate of Caernarvon Castle, a significant location as Edward I was responsible for the construction of several large castles in Wales to maintain his control over the region. The portrait was published as directed by the act on May 1st, 1787, which suggests a deliberate effort to comply with copyright registration laws of the time. See less
