The painter, … Read more Splendid painting depicting the famous biblical scene of the Sacrifice of Isaac told in the stories of Genesis. The painter, most likely a Tuscan active during the second half of the seventeenth century, was able to enact a hectic and tumultuous scene and in some ways imposed the story in a very original way. As is the chromatism used by the painter, who moves well between light and dark, using an interesting pastel tone, nuanced and luminous. The scenario is set prospectively from bottom to top. Isaac has his hands tied behind his back and writhes in the torment that his father Abraham is inflicting on him, put to the test by God; the angel bursts into the fatal moment, blocking Abraham's sword to save Isaac. The painting was relined in the 19th century, but it is possible to see the ancient 17th-century canvas. The measures of the painting are approximately 80cm x 60cm and 92cm x 72cm with the non-contemporary frame. The painting is in excellent condition.
