Webber was indeed an artist who accompanied Captain James Cook on his third voyage to the Pacific Ocean and was responsible for many of the images that depicted the cultures and landscapes encountered during those explorations. John Webber's role as the official artist on Cook's voyage was significant as his works provided one of the earliest and most detailed visual records of the Pacific and its inhabitants at that time. After returning to London, his drawings and paintings were used to produce engravings for the official account of Cook's voyages, giving the European public a visual understanding of the distant lands Cook had visited.
