The representation stands out against a dark background, typical of this particular pictorial genre that uses refined garlands of flowers for ornamental and illusionistic purposes. Such garlands, like those executed by Seghers during the first half of the seventeenth century, could be commissioned from the painter specializing in still lifes by another painter who then completed it with a portrait of a secular or religious nature. The garland in question is studded with an incredible variety of flowers that have been executed with a certain attention to naturalistic detail and are distinguished by an elegant structure combined with the vivacity and brilliance of colors. The painting was executed by a talented Roman painter who closely looked at the works of Seghers and was probably active in his workshop. Seghers' culture and works would soon spread, even in Italy, after his passage through Rome between the 2nd and 3rd decades of the seventeenth century, the central period of the proliferation of Baroque taste and style. We also remember that excellent artists were often called upon to paint the portraits, whether they were secular or religious faces, often, they were willing young people looking for commissions. These are the Roman painters who would then characterize the second half of the 17th century. As an example, we can take the formation of the Sabine painter Girolamo Troppa, who with these means and with the decoration of herb juices, was trained in his youth in the capital city. And if we want to make comparisons, it must be said that the face of our Salvador Mundi is very sweet and conforms to the style of the young Troppa. The coeval frame on which this painting is mounted is beautiful, presenting marmorization in ochre-colored lacquer and truly fascinating brown colors. The measurements of the canvas are 75 cm x 100 cm in height Measurements with frame 100 x 114 We attach a historical certificate of authenticity to the sale. See less
