Measuring 65 inches by 54 inches, this richly embroidered work was crafted using pure silk threads, applied in a rare braided embroidery technique over a cotton ground — a method that produces a luxurious texture and depth rarely seen in suzanis of this scale.



Each silk thread was hand-dyed and meticulously stitched into vivid floral medallions, pomegranate vines, and symbolic forms echoing themes of abundance, protection, and fertility — traditional motifs deeply rooted in Azerbaijani culture. The entire piece was likely created as a dowry or ceremonial textile, a treasured heirloom intended to celebrate a union or lineage.



Unlike machine-made reproductions, this authentic textile was composed of three joined panels, a hallmark of regional workshop tradition. Its age, estimated between the 1950s and 1960s, reveals itself in the soft fading of some pigments and a faint yellowish stain in one quadrant (photographed), which adds character rather than detracts.
