Offered is an original handcrafted pottery vase by African American artist Ben Watford of New Bern, North Carolina. This signed and dated piece, created in 1997, features a dramatic coiled snake embellishment hand-painted in deep brown and golden yellow glazes over a marbled ochre base. The vase showcases Watford’s signature fusion of African-American folk art tradition with Southern utilitarian pottery.
A well-known cultural preservationist and potter, Ben Watford's works are increasingly collected for their historical and artistic value. This striking vase stands approximately 10.75" tall and 4.5 in diameter with a flared lip and rounded body, fully glazed inside and out. Marked on the base: BEN WATFORD 1997.
