Description of the item:
Murano blown glass sculpture, opaline with transparent glass parts and gold leaf and red glass paste cord applied hot to the bottom of the skirt. Depicting a beautiful lady with a hat in 18th-century dress. Datable to around 1940-1950. The sculpture is unsigned but can easily be attributed to Archimede Seguso. The main value of this sculpture lies in the use of milky white glass paste for the central body, limbs, hat, and head of the lady, while the dress, hat, and hair are made of transparent glass applied hot to cover the entire main body of the sculpture. The lace on the sleeves of the dress is made of transparent glass and, like the bodice, is enriched with gold dust inclusions. Finally, the skirt is decorated with a raised cord in red glass paste, applied by hand in a spiral pattern.
Useful information for evaluating the item:
Through some internet research, we found a pair of similar sculptures, with extremely complex workmanship in opaline glass, transparent with gold leaf and red glass paste cord, exactly the same as our lady, but with different coloring, offered on an online Murano website (OMG: Original Murano Glass) for €1,290, while the same site sells similar pairs made only in transparent glass, which are much simpler to produce, for exactly half that price. This shows that the workmanship of this sculpture is very complex and valuable. On the Internet, similar glass sculptures are offered from a minimum of over €400 for single sculptures, up to over €3,900 for a pair, depending on the size and complexity of the workmanship of the object offered. This gives an idea of the value of objects similar to ours.
