description of the item:
wonderful trio of murano opal glass sculptures, two in white and orange glass, with the addition of colloidal selenium and tin, and one in white and purple glass, with the addition of colloidal gold. Depicting a chinese family, with the father, the largest figure in white and purple glass, and two daughters or women, one standing and one kneeling, in white and orange glass. All three figures are depicted wearing the characteristic asian hat of chinese rice farmers and harvesters, called dou lì, a hat usually made of bamboo or straw, and with the classic braid behind their backs. The three sculptures are unsigned, but they were certainly made by archimede seguso, the creator of this type of sculpture, which has been published several times in his sales catalogs, auction catalogs, and other murano glass sales sites. The three sculptures are of a good size and are made of solid, extremely heavy glass, considering that the three pieces weigh over 5 kg. They are also all in perfect condition, without any scratches or chips, a feature that makes the three objects even rarer.
useful information for evaluating the item:
our research shows that the four highest auction results achieved by archimede seguso range from over €66,000 to over €80,000, to which auction fees of 25-30% must always be added, to give an idea of the importance of this artist. We also found a single sculpture of a kneeling asian man very similar to our kneeling sculpture in terms of the subject depicted and the dimensions, but made of transparent glass, which is certainly less valuable than opaline glass, valued by "viscontea" at €600-€900, at the "design" auction, lot number 173 entitled "archimede seguso (murano, 1909 - murano, 1999) murano glass sculpture." finally, we found several sculptures, all very similar to ours, offered on various art and antiques sales websites at considerable prices, ranging from €400-€500 to requests of almost €1,300 for a single sculpture, with maximum requests on the internet for a pair of very similar sculptures of €6,700. Keep in mind that prices vary greatly depending on the importance of the auction house and the date of the auction, because the purchasing power of money varies with inflation. Finally, consider that our triptych consists of three objects that certainly have a greater value when offered together than the value of a single sculpture or a pair. Finally, our three sculptures are all made of opaline glass, which is certainly more valuable than the transparent glass used to make most of the sculptures mentioned and found in our research.
(by entering the details of the objects we have indicated into google, especially the title of the auction or sale listing in the same language we have used, the date, the lot number, and the auction house or name of the sales website, you will, in most cases, be able to find and view the objects mentioned).
information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
archimede seguso (murano, december 17, 1909 – murano, september 6, 1999) was an italian entrepreneur and master glassmaker. Considered "a living encyclopedia of glass" (as defined by giuseppe cappa in the book "le genie verrier de l'europe"), he was one of the most famous venetian glassmakers, distinguishing himself above all in the working of heavy glass (known as massello), boasting numerous auction results and thousands of collectors.
