Item description:
Beautiful, antique Japanese medieval terracotta vase in truncated pyramid shape, entirely hand-modeled and glazed. The vase can be attributed to Rokkoyo Japanese ceramics, i.e., ceramics produced by the six most important Japanese kilns of the Middle Ages, 13th-15th centuries, respectively: Shigaraki, Tamba, Bizen, Tokoname, Echizen, and Seto. The glaze has been worn away by hand to highlight the two ideograms on two sides of the vase. Datable to the 15th century, there is no signature under the base, only the presence of the two ideograms, which we are unable to decipher. Wonderful, very evident antique patina covering the entire vase. Note the beauty of the lighter, rough, and porous worn part, made entirely by hand to highlight the ideograms.
Useful information for evaluating the item:
Our internet research shows that similar vases, made by these ancient Japanese kilns, all in entirely hand-molded terracotta, are offered at prices ranging from €1,000 to €7,500 on the Internet, currently the most important platform for the sale of art and antiques, depending on the size and age of the vase in question. This is just to give a general idea of the value of similar vases. Unfortunately, we are not particularly knowledgeable in the field of Asian and Oriental art, and we do not know for certain which of the six Japanese kilns our vase can be attributed to, but we are talking about a very old vase, which could be very valuable indeed.
