An elegant, large-format majolica display plate (diameter 37 cm), made in central Italy—likely between Umbria and the Marche—between the late … Read more An elegant, large-format majolica display plate (diameter 37 cm), made in central Italy—likely between Umbria and the Marche—between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Entirely hand-painted with great skill, it features a rich Renaissance-inspired grotesque decoration, with fantastic motifs, winged figures, imaginary animals, floral elements, and ornamental triumphs arranged in perfect symmetry. At the center is a heraldic shield divided into two fields: at the top, a black eagle on a gold field, a symbol of imperial nobility, while at the bottom, a male bust and a wheel, perhaps alluding to a family emblem. Above the shield is a crowned and plumed helmet, typical of heraldic tradition. The frame is finely bordered with a continuous decorative frieze in blue and yellow, creating a striking visual effect. The back features two opposing holes, originally made for wall hanging. Original crackle enamel, no visible restorations, authentic antique patina. Diameter: 37 cm. Very good overall condition, with minor signs of wear. See less
