A rare and expressive studio chair by Arthur Simpson of Kendal, one of the most accomplished makers of the British Arts and Crafts movement. Crafted in solid oak with a rich, medullary ray grain and inset panels of patinated leather, the chair balances simplicity with ornamental force. The silhouette is gently architectural: a high, tapering back, a bowed rear stretcher, and front legs that lift to meet the broad arms with a sculptural poise.
