Item description:
Wonderful Murano blown glass vase, extremely difficult to make, in transparent, green, and blue glass, unsigned but attributable to Archimede Seguso, dating from around the mid-20th century, made in Murano, Venice.
Useful information for evaluating the item:
The vase is unsigned, but the type of glass used, with a transparent base that then changes to green, and its shape, allow us to attribute the authorship of this vase to the famous master glassmaker Archimede Seguso. In fact, from our research on the internet, we have found two transparent and green glass ducks, very similar to our vase in terms of glass color, estimated at €250-550 by Trionfante Casa D'Aste SRL in Palermo, Italy, at the "Design" auction on June 10, 2023, lot number 2, entitled "Anatroccoli (c.1960) ." Then we found another vase, also made of submerged glass, with four large rounded edges protruding from the transparent glass base, while the interior is pink, identical to our base except that the glass inside is green and the mouth is different from ours. However, the base is identical, apart from the color, estimated at €200-300 by the Capitolium Auction House in Brescia, Italy, at the "Vetri(online)" auction on July 30, 2019, lot number 559, entitled "Vaso" (Vase). Finally, based on our research, we found that the four highest auction results achieved by Archimede Seguso range from over €66,000 to over €80,000. This gives an idea of the importance of Archimede Seguso and glassware similar to ours.
(By entering the details of the items we have indicated into Google, especially the title of the auction or sale listing in the same language we have used, the date, the lot number, and the auction house or name of the sales website, you will, in most cases, be able to find and view the items mentioned).
Final considerations on the object:
The shape of the vase is particularly valuable, with various glass ridges that rise upwards and end in a lanceolate leaf shape. Note the peculiarity of the color, especially on the final leaves, which begin with a transparent base, then have a blue stripe, and end in green, with a gradually darker shade, which is very difficult to execute. This object was certainly made by a great master glassmaker.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
Archimede Seguso (Murano, December 17, 1909 – Murano, September 6, 1999) was an Italian entrepreneur and master glassmaker. Considered "a living encyclopedia of glass" (as defined by Giuseppe Cappa in the book "Le Genie Verrier de L'Europe"), he was one of the most famous Venetian glassmakers, distinguishing himself above all in the working of heavy glass (known as massello), boasting numerous auction results and thousands of collectors.
This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
