This is a stunning antique Japanese Satsuma-style ceramic urn, likely dating from the late Meiji period (circa 1890–1920). The lidded vessel is elaborately hand-painted with traditional Japanese figures, gold enamel accents, and intricate floral motifs.
It features two ornate side handles in the shape of mythical lion dogs (shishi or fu lions), and a prominent gilt foo dog finial atop the lid—symbols of protection and strength. The urn rests on three raised legs and is unmarked on the base, though there are handwritten characters along the interior rim and a faded old paper label that suggests prior cataloging or collection or year.
