Description of the item:
Majestic hard-paste porcelain biscuit sculpture depicting a sweet little girl leaning on a large wooden cross, signed on the back of the base with an incised mark and catalog number, made in France by one of the many manufacturers in Limoges, specifically by "Betoule et Cie," dating back to the early decades of the 20th century.
Final thoughts on the item:
The biscuit is extremely compact, hard, of the highest quality, rich in kaolin, satin-finished, and smooth to the touch. The sculpture is very heavy, weighing over 4.5 kg, and is also very large, measuring 40 centimeters in height. I can guarantee that it will look impressive on a piece of furniture. The beauty of the child is beyond question. Note her face gently resting on her hands joined in prayer and the beauty of her dress, decorated with incuses at the bottom and rich in folds that fall softly. She is particularly expressive, with a slightly sad and thoughtful face, probably mourning the death of a relative she cared for deeply.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
The Limoges manufacturer "Betoule et Cie" was founded in Limoges, France, in the late 1800s or early 1900s. In the last photo, we have added further historical notes on the manufacturer, taken from a book specializing in European porcelain manufacturer marks, including the mark used by our manufacturer in the early decades of the 20th century, from 1920 onwards.
