Some pieces have a ‘tipped’ front and others are ‘tipped’ on the back as shown in the photo of the fork and knife. W&G Sissons company began operating as Roberts, Cadman & Co. in 1784 in Sheffield. In the late 1800s, after the addition of new partners and the death of others, the company was renamed W&G Sissons Co. From the late 1800s through the 1930s, the company sold refined electroplated items- the back-stamp ‘BPNS’ stands for British Plated Nickel Silver. The technique was invented in Sheffield and was a way to produce silverware for the masses at affordable prices. The company ceased silverware production in the late 1930s.
