Hand-carved in the late 1700s, during the reign of Louis XVI, the mantel consists of five pieces of limestone, with the two pieces of stone seen under the lintel being placed on the back of the legs during installation (see main photo and subsequent detail photos). The lintel is adorned with a center floral swag cartouche between two layers of protruding molding. A rosette embellishes the ends of the lintel, each set above tall, graceful legs with chandelle fluting. The limestone has a very pleasing cream hue with subtle accents of white and pink, allowing it to be used with just about any interior design palette. See less
