Renowned for their terracotta garden figures and architectural ornaments, the firm was part of the region’s celebrated ceramic tradition during the late 19th century. Weight 62 pounds!
The figure portrays a young boy in harvest attire, proudly holding up a large cluster of grapes while resting one hand on a brimmed hat. A woven basket brimming with fruit hangs at his side, and the sculpted details, from the folds in his clothing to the texture of the grapes, convey rustic charm and artisanal craftsmanship. The base is stamped: "Mandeville et Bernier, Fab. de Produits Céramiques, Castelnaudary, Aude".
Standing over 3 feet high, and measuring 38 inches tall by 17.5 inches wide and 11.5 inches deep, this figure makes a great accessory near a bar area or in a wine cellar, where it can celebrate the spirit of the harvest. Excellent antique condition consistent with age and material. See less
