A large serpentine sofa designed and produced by Vladimir Kagan in the early 2000s. This example maintains its original fabric; re-upholstery before use is recommended. Labeled "Vladimir Kagan Couture" on the underside.

Vladimir Kagan was born in Germany in 1927 and emigrated to the United States, where he joined his father's cabinetmaking business. It was in this environment that Kagan began experimenting with organically sculpted wood—an exploration that became a cornerstone of his career. Known for his bold and unconventional approach, Kagan once noted the contrast between his meticulous father’s advice—“measure three times and cut once”—and his own reliance on instinct and spontaneity, believing that “dumb luck” often played just as crucial a role in design.

Kagan's work possesses a rare ability: even a single piece can redefine the entire character of a room. This sofa is a testament to that legacy, marrying functional comfort with sculptural elegance.
