A vintage pair of Lallier Moustiers plates hand painted with peacock birds and a floral with foliate surround. These pretty plates have a scalloped edge. They are faience, a type of tin glazed majolica earthenware. They are both perfect for display or as serving dishes.
French faience emerged in the 16th century and became popular among the elite in the 17th and early 18th centuries. It is distinguished by its opaque white glaze, achieved by adding tin oxide to a lead glaze.
