Set of 9 mid-19th-century French volumes, featuring two works from"uvres Complètes de Bourdaloue" (1846) — the collected sermons of Louis Bourdaloue, famed 17th-century Jesuit preacher to Louis XIV — and eight volumes of the Dictionnaire de la Conversation, a popular 19th-century reference work designed to educate and elevate polite conversation in French salons.
Bound in deep green leather with gilt titles and marbled paper boards, these books once served as both intellectual companions and elegant status symbols.
