This set of ten (10) vintage abstracted modernist lithographs (offset) by the well known and well listed American artist Charley … Read more This set of ten (10) vintage abstracted modernist lithographs (offset) by the well known and well listed American artist Charley Harper (Cincinnati, OH 1922-2007) depict ten types of American birds who construct unusual nests. (i.e."Architects"). On the reverse of each image is a textual description of the next lithograph in the series. The text describing the first lithograph (Baltimore Oriole) is included and is on a separate page as shown in the photo array.. The other descriptions are on the reverse of the next 9 lithos. Harper defined his style as "Minimal Realism". These images are all drawn in this iconic and easily identifiable style. Printed on substantial stock. Great composition and vibrant color; sure to be a point of interest in any room. Printed in China in 2013. Dimensions: 10.75" x 8.25". Great for a huge wall treatment or several smaller groupings. Charley Harper was a Cincinnati-based American Modernist artist. He was best known for his highly stylized wildlife prints, posters, and book illustrations. Born Charles Burton Harper in Frenchton, West Virginia in 1922, Harper's upbringing on his family farm influenced his work to his last days. He left his farm home to study art at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, and won the academy's first Stephen H. Wilder Traveling Scholarship. Also during his time at the Academy, and supposedly on the first day, Charley met fellow artist Edie Mckee, whom he married shortly after graduation in 1947.
