"Dream Allegory" by Julius Moessel (1872-1960). Oil on canvas. The size of the image is 44.5" by 54.5". The size of the framed painting is 52"wide by 62" tall. Moessel was a master surrealist artist and received numerous commissions in his career. An extensive Biography of his early 20th century. Highly esteemed Chicago artist/painter, widely exhibited.
The imagery is highly suggestive of many characters in the landscape, the Shinx, Buddha, Christ, a cast of people in a procession by the sphinx and characters of mythology abound in the story.
Moessel has a wide history and body of work mainly in Chicago when he was widely esteemed during the 40's-50s.
