Item description:
wonderful ceramic jug entirely hand-modeled on a potter's wheel, then glazed with glazes rich in metallic minerals, decorated with futuristic designs using additional relief glazes, and finished with an acid treatment. Signed "baratti-pesaro" under the base, made by the famous pesaro ceramist bruno baratti around the mid-20th century. There is an adhesive label on the back with a number and some letters written in green, probably indicating that the object was part of an auction and that was the lot number.
useful information for evaluating the object:
from our research on the internet, we have found that bruno baratti has achieved numerous other important auction results, with very high estimates and final prices. For example, we found a large ceramic jug, lot number 313 entitled "pouring vessel with side handle (c.1950)" in an auction entitled "living contemporary" on 15/09/2011, held by "wright auction" in chicago, il, in the united states, with an estimate of: €1,463 - €2,195. We then found another jug listed at €800 - €1,200, specifically lot number 55 entitled "no author, for bruno baratti, pesaro. Vase." description: "1950s. Valentini nanni for bruno baratti, pesaro. Vase. Majolica." , auction of may 21, 2015 - may 22, 2015 by capitolium art. Finally, we found a vase offered on the italia design 900 website for €500 and another jug offered for €590 on pamono. It should be noted that, in our opinion, our jug is more beautiful and has a much more complex artistic design than many of the jugs given as examples.
(by entering the details of the items we have mentioned into google, especially the title of the auction or sale listing in the same language we used, the date, the lot number, and the auction house or name of the sales website, you will, in most cases, be able to find and view the items mentioned).
final considerations on the object:
the jug is in perfect condition and of a good size, considering that it is 31.5 centimeters tall. It has a beautiful shape, in full futurist style, with a flat, enlarged belly and a very elongated neck and handle, like the upward-elongated mouth, in the classic canons of futurism. The abstract decorations are particularly beautiful, created by applying enamels to the initial glaze, which in turn is rich in metallic minerals that melted at high temperatures, giving the jug a metallic sheen finish that is more accentuated in some places than others. The acid treatment of the first glaze has made the surface of the jug opaque and rough to the touch.
information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
the painter and decorator bruno baratti was born in 1911 and began his career as a ceramist at a very young age. In pietro ciccoli's workshop, he worked directly under achille wildi, who in 1928 took him to work with him in his new workshop. Bruno baratti's works have been featured in many exhibitions and won several awards, and the artist often created unique pieces. He was one of the most important ceramists on the italian art scene in the 20th century, so much so that in 1981 the municipality of pesaro dedicated an anthological exhibition to him. He died in 2008. In the last photos, we have added further biographical information about the artist for those who wish to learn more.
