Majestic, large, chemically patinated and partially gilded bronze sculpture, on a black marble base, depicting a semi-nude Lady Luck holding a cornucopia, depicted in the act of distributing coins, hence wealth. Made in 1998, it is signed and dated on the base with an incised signature: "F. Schivo," meaning Félix Schivo, the famous Italian artist.
Useful information for the item's valuation:
Félix Schivo was an Italian artist born in 1924 and died in 2006. He boasts numerous auction results, especially for plaster, terracotta, and bronze sculptures, as well as for his watercolors. An online search shows that the four highest prices achieved by this artist's sculptures range from €1,900 to €4,200 plus 25-30% commission, giving a general idea of the value of his works. We then found an article about a bronze bust of the Austrian writer and playwright Stefan Zweig, created by Félix Schivo and located in the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris, which gives an idea of the importance of this celebrated Italian artist.
Final Considerations on the Object:
The sculpture depicts the blindfolded Goddess of Fortune, also known as "La Dea Bendata" or "La Fortuna," often depicted holding a cornucopia of coins, intent on handing out coins. This sculpture's distinctive feature is that the goddess is depicted semi-nude and in a seductive, flirtatious pose, which is quite unusual for this subject, a subject that has been depicted by many sculptors since the 19th century. The sculpture's truly large dimensions are noteworthy, standing a full 48 centimeters tall; I can assure you it will look stunning on a piece of furniture. The surface of the bronze is very particular, wrinkled and rough and not smooth as is normally the case with bronze sculptures. In fact, it almost seems as if the artist wanted to make it look like it was made of terracotta and not bronze. This piece has an attribution mark,
