This vintage Egyptian Kilim, measuring 9'7" by 13'9", is handwoven with wool on a cotton foundation in the Fustat region of the Nile Delta. Kilims and flat weaves are characterized by their lack of pile, created through the tight interlacing of warp and weft threads to form a smooth, flat surface. Typically crafted on horizontal looms, this method produces sharp geometric patterns. Lighter and softer than traditional pile rugs, kilims have been used as sofa covers, drapes, pillows, tablecloths, and wall hangings, offering both decorative appeal and insulation against cold temperatures.
