This vintage Afghan Maimana Kilim, measuring 6'7" by 9'11", is handwoven with wool on a wool foundation by the Maimana tribes of Northern Afghanistan. Kilims and flat weaves are distinguished by their lack of pile, created through the tight interlacing of warp and weft threads to form a smooth, flat surface. Typically crafted on horizontal looms, this technique yields sharp geometric patterns. Lighter and softer than traditional pile rugs, kilims have versatile uses including sofa covers, drapes, pillows, tablecloths, and wall hangings, providing both decorative appeal and insulation against harsh cold.
