John Hunter Thompson (British, 1808-1890) large oil painting of a favorite dog named Flora. She wears a blue ribbon and carries a letter in her mouth. Signed lower left and dated 1874. Measures 38 1/2" wide x 30 1/2" high x 2 1/2" out from the wall (framed); 35 1/4" wide 27 1/4" high (sight). Good condition - relined, some craquelure. Presents well.
Thompson was friends with the Brontë family and part of the Bradford circle of artists. His portrait of Charlotte Brontë hangs at the Brontë Parsonage Museum.
