Hand-carved circa 1860, this console features a luscious veneer with prominent grains. Set beneath the slightly overhanging, rectangular top is a seamless pull-out drawer adorned with ogee molding. A pair of graceful S-curve legs connects the drawer to the shapely bottom ledge. The apron of the bottom ledge has been carved with a sinuous arbalete that sits slightly above the floor on shaped block feet. A console such as this could often be found in French apartments against the wall in an entryway or salon, set beneath a mirror. See less
