This flame mahogany, tilt-top, Victorian candle stand/table is truly a beauty! The locking mechanism works wonderfully, and its ornate brass piece is original to the table. If you have ever owned a tilt top table, you know that the locking mechanisms have usually been ruined or removed— it is a rarity to find one still intact and working well!
The deep, rich “flame” color and its stunning grain pattern, add charm to this table’s functionality. The pedestal is highly carved, as well as the acanthus leaves carved on the tops of its three graceful legs.
Tilt-tops were relied upon in the 1860’s, to support candles or lamps in the evening (as electricity was still decades away for homes), but during the day, the tables could be made smaller and placed out-of-the-way. The ornate carvings were meant to showcase the homeowner’s taste and prosperity.
The height of the table is 25”, but when it is tilted up, the height becomes 44 inches. The weight is 20.9 lbs.
